When processors behave differently in certain situations than specified in the documentation, manufacturers report this in what are known as errata. For non-critical systems—such as those providing comfort features on trains—such deviations are insignificant in the vast majority of cases; at worst, an incorrect calculation may cause the system to reboot. The consequences can be more serious in functionally safe or cybersecurity-critical systems.

To gain access to errata, we have entered into agreements with established processor manufacturers; however, these agreements contain strict confidentiality clauses. We are therefore unable to provide you with direct information. Instead, we can check on your behalf whether errata affect the behavior of your system and, if in doubt, work with you to develop proposed solutions.

While manufacturers provide free access to errata during the first few years of a product’s lifecycle, they sometimes charge high fees for older processors. If you have commissioned a custom, functionally safe system from us, we are legally and normatively obligated to review the manufacturers’ errata for a specified period and to inform you of any findings. If you purchase a standard product from us that you intend to integrate into a functionally safe system, the responsibility falls on you. In this case, we will of course assist you with the errata review upon request.
