Joint Booth

Embedded Electronic Solutions represent the joint approach of duagon and Selectron to building integrated and future-ready rail systems. As a result of the business combination, we can now offer our customers both project-specific solutions and modular, off-the-shelf solutions. By combining Computing & Control with Train Control Network, we bring together all key elements required for reliable, safe and scalable rail systems.
Yes, at least that is the current plan. Selectron and duagon will remain independent legal entities with their established brands, locations, and customer relationships. The joint business unit promotes technical exchange and collaboration across company boundaries. For our customers, contact persons, processes, and ongoing projects will remain unchanged.
Our customers will benefit from an expanded portfolio of technologies and solutions from a single source. The combination of expertise in the areas of connectivity, network solutions, automation, functional safety, and cybersecurity enables integrated solutions for modern rail vehicles and infrastructure. At the same time, both companies will maintain their customer focus and high level of flexibility.
As part of the Knorr-Bremse Group, Selectron and duagon are working more closely together within a joint business unit. Customers thus benefit from additional expertise, a strong international network, and the innovative strength of a globally leading rail technology group, while both companies retain their proven brands and expertise.

FAQ - InnoTrans 2026

InnoTrans 2026 is an international trade fair for transport technology, with a strong focus on railway and public transport. It brings together manufacturers, operators, suppliers, policymakers, investors, engineers, and industry professionals to explore new products, infrastructure solutions, and mobility innovations.
Embedded electronics are used in rail vehicles wherever data needs to be collected, processed, and transmitted, and wherever functions need to be controlled or monitored. They enable communication between various vehicle subsystems and support safe and reliable operation.
Typical areas of application include:
- Train control and train monitoring systems
- Passenger information systems
- Video surveillance and video management systems
- Door control and access systems
- Climate control, lighting, and auxiliary controls
- Energy Measurement and Performance Monitoring
- Condition Monitoring and Predictive Maintenance
- Onboard Ethernet and train communication networks
- Event recorders and the collection and processing of diagnostic data
duagon and Selectron offer embedded computers, gateways, I/O systems, and network products that have been specifically developed for these rail applications.
Along the route, embedded electronics are used for monitoring, control, and communication with the railway infrastructure and operating systems. They are typically used in the following areas:
- Signaling systems and signal interface systems
- Track condition monitoring
- Monitoring and control of railroad crossings
- Depot and workshop automation
- Station facilities and passenger information
- Track-side communication and network equipment
- Remote Diagnostics and System Monitoring
- Power monitoring and power distribution systems
- Environmental and Safety Monitoring
duagon supports railway infrastructure projects with high-performance railway products that reliably collect, process, and transmit operational data in demanding track-side environments.
The standards required for embedded electronics in the railway sector depend on the type of application, the installation location, the vehicle or infrastructure type, the country, and customer requirements.
Common railway standards include, among others:
- EN 50155 – Electronic equipment for rail vehicles
- EN 50121-3-2 – Electromagnetic compatibility for rail vehicles
- EN 45545-2 – Fire and smoke protection requirements for rail vehicles
- IEC 61373 – Shock and vibration testing for railway equipment
- EN 50128 - Software for control and protection systems in rail transport
- EN 50129 - Safety-related electronic systems for signaling
- IEC 62443 - Industrial cybersecurity, where applicable
duagon and Selectron provide product-specific information on applicable standards, test reports, approvals, and configuration restrictions. For project decisions, only the standards listed in a product data sheet or in the official conformity documentation are authoritative.
Electronics in the railway sector must function reliably despite mechanical vibrations, shock loads, temperature fluctuations, humidity, dust, power disturbances, and electromagnetic interference.
Embedded systems for the railway sector utilize rugged enclosures, secure connectors, a fanless cooling concept, components designed for a wide temperature range, a protective coating, shielded power supply connections, and long-term component management. The systems are tested for compliance with the relevant environmental and electromagnetic requirements according to their intended application.
duagon and Selectron develop solutions for use on trains. In addition, duagon also develops solutions for use along the tracks. The verified operating temperature ranges, EMC performance, protection rating, shock and vibration classifications, and supported installation conditions are specified in the technical documentation for each product.
Embedded systems in the railway sector use interfaces and protocols to connect on-board devices, sensors, control systems, diagnostic platforms, and track-side infrastructure.
Common interfaces include:
- Ethernet and Gigabit Ethernet
- CAN and CANopen
- MVB and WTB
- RS-232, RS-422, and RS-485
- Digital and analog inputs and outputs (I/O)
- USB and serial interfaces
- Wi-Fi, cellular, GNSS, or other wireless options
Depending on the system architecture, relevant protocols may include TRDP, TCN, IEC 61375, Modbus TCP, MQTT, and other application-specific protocols.
duagon and Selectron support various interfaces and protocols in the product portfolio. The availability of interfaces varies depending on the product and configuration.
Thanks to embedded electronics, older trains can be retrofitted with enhanced capabilities in the areas of monitoring, connectivity, diagnostics, passenger information, video, energy management, and maintenance—without having to replace the entire vehicle.
A retrofit solution may need to be compatible with existing networks, older serial devices, sensors, vehicle control units, and new IP-based systems. Key considerations for projects include available installation space, connector compatibility, power supply, environmental conditions, documentation, cybersecurity, certification requirements, and long-term product availability.
duagon and Selectron support retrofit and modernization projects for rail vehicles with standard products and engineering services.
