New digital microscope

50 times larger than reality: That’s what the new digital microscope, which has been in use at the duagon site in Nuremberg since mid-June, can achieve.

… and it really does come down to size!

In the test lab, it simplifies and improves various measurement procedures. While the lab team previously used analog calipers for this, they can now use the new digital microscope for accredited testing procedures – such as the measurement of clearance and creepage distances according to EN 50124-1 – allowing them to work much faster and more precisely. At the same time, it is now possible for the first time to examine areas whose geometry would be too tight for a caliper (for example, directly next to an electrolytic capacitor).

There are additional advantages to digital technology, as laboratory manager Dr. Bastian Pur explains: “Unlike with analog methods, we can display the digital image on a screen and discuss it with several people at once. We can also reproduce measurements much more precisely and easily use the images for documentation purposes.”

Alongside its use in the test lab, valuable new possibilities are also emerging for other duagon departments: “Our product development and manufacturing have already expressed great interest,” says Bastian happily, “because we can also use the microscope for quality assurance.” Looking to the future, the microscope could even be expanded with additional modules, enabling 3D measurements and selected material analyses.
